Nesting season has begun and in a while it will be the dreaded SWOOPING season.
Magpies only swoop for a very short and specific time when their young have left the nest but cannot fly.
If you get swooped every year at the same location then try an experiment. Those magpies live in a stable territory so you will see the adults feeding as you walk past and they will ignore you.
Try throwing them a tiny bit of food each time you pass and they will recognise you as a friend and hence little danger to the future young. Still best to wear a hat for the week or so when the fledglings are out and about. Don’t wave sticks at them or threaten them as they will know you as the enemy and will remember whichever role you choose for years.
